This is a complicated topic. I do not assign strong confidence to my takeaways and believe the UX around menus and navigation has much room to improve.

👉 What to put in the navbar

  1. Links to main pages
  2. Connection status
  3. Anything extra, like settings, dark mode, history

1. Links - put on the left or the centre

  1. Have fewer than six
  2. And ideally four
  3. Use icons if possible

2. Connection Status - put on the right

  1. Show the connected network
  2. Even if you are only on one network (many apps are now multichain)
  3. Allow users to change the network from this button (don’t make them go to metamask)
  4. Show the wallet address as a button (make it look clickable)
  5. I believe dark/light mode toggle should go here too, simply for ease of access

3. Everything else - put in a menu accessible by clicking on wallet address

  1. Have two tabs for:
    1. User’s assets (ideally across chains)
    2. Transaction history
  2. Show the balance of the network token (needed for gas)
